PANEL DISCUSSION ON “IMPACT OF CORONA VIRUS PANDEMIC ON THE ENVIRONMENT” REIMAGINE, RECREATE, RESTORE-2021

On the eve of World Environment Day 2021, the Eco watch club organised a Panel discussion on the theme “Ecosystem Restoration- Impact of Corona Virus pandemic on the Environment”

The panel was led by the Moderator, Ms. Nancy Deborah, Asst. Professor, Department of Botany. Around 13 panellists from BA, B. Sc, B.Com and BCA actively participated. The discussions were based on lot of Research related to the impact of Covid 19 pandemic on the Environment. The panellists presented statistical data about the present crisis of Environment related to Pandemic with respect to carbon emissions, waste, habitat, energy, wildlife and Ecosystem Restoration. The panel discussion opened with Surekha and Srustitha Williams where they highlighted about the reduction of carbon emissions due to the lockdown in various cities. Sarah Mirza, Tulsi Agarwal and Deepika seervi continued the discussion showing substantial evidences of ecosystem restoration during this period. Mifzala Erum and Muskaan highlighted aspects of energy conservation while Amruthi prajapathi and Jinal Khandelwal spoke about importance of Wild life conservation. The discussion concluded with Tasleem and Isobel speaking about ways to attain sustainable development.

This discussion provided a platform for the students to spread Environmental awareness and also discuss strategies to improve restoration of ecosystems. It was an opportunity to be bold in addressing environmental issues. The panel discussion concluded with a note on improving Bangalore environment by the Judge Mr. Anand Tirtha who is an Environmental activist. Students took an oath to protect the Environment followed by the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Esther Watson, Head, Department of Botany.
