The National Service Scheme was inaugurated by the College in August 2008. The NSS Unit organizes several programs including: voluntary blood donation camps,special camps for community service, outreach programmes, medical checkups for orphanages, celebration of national festivals, national youth week programs,intercollegiate conventions for social responsibility of the youth, environmental cycle rallies, save oil campaigns, walkathons and rallies for the prevention of AIDS and female foeticide, The NSS is thus a link between campus and community.

NSS Report - 2020-2021
Awareness Programme – Spit-Free India Movement:
The NSS volunteers showed support to the ‘Spit-Free India Movement’ during June to August
2020 to prevent the spread of COVID – 19. Around 100 volunteers created awareness among public on
the issue and received a Letter of Appreciation from “Pledge for Life’.
Independence Day:
On 15 th August 2020, NSS unit celebrated Independence Day along with NCC unit and Student
Council. The National Flag was hoisted by Prof. Esther Prasanakumar, Principal. The safety norms were
followed due to the National pandemic COVID 19. To adhere to the covid restriction, only 12 Faculties
were part of this programme.
Awareness Programme:
The NSS Volunteers along with their family members pledged to prevent COVID 19 on 9 th
October 2020. The volunteers also created awareness among the public about the safety precautions to be
followed in this pandemic. Around 30 volunteers took part in this programme.
NSS Orientation:
The NSS Unit organized Orientation Programme for all the volunteers on 6 th November 2020 at
12.30 p.m. The programme was led by the NSS committee members. The volunteers were given an insight
on the Working of NSS and the Role of Youth in NSS. 110 participants and 3 faculty took part in this
programme.
Webinar:
The NSS unit organized a Student Webinar on ‘Strategies for Better Mental Health’ on 20 th
November 2020 at 10 a.m through online platform. The speaker Ms. Delphina Esther, Counseling
Psychologist spoke about the Best ways to overcome mental health issues and enhance positive thinking.
The students from various colleges participated in this event with a registration of 236 participants.
Republic Day:
Republic Day was celebrated on 26 th January 2020 along with NCC unit, Student Welfare Officers
and council members. Dr. Jacqueline, Head, Department of Chemistry hoisted the National Flag. 50
students and 12 faculties were part of this programme.

Report -2015 -16
Orientation:
On 3rd August 2015, NSS unit conducted Orientation for all the NSS volunteers. Prof. Prema Siddaraju, HOD, Department of Kannada and NSS Programme Officer of SJR College for Women inaugurated the programme. The Chief Guest addressed the students on various activities of NSS at the National Level. Further the students were given knowledge about the formation of NSS and the Role of Youth in NSS.
Independence Day:
The NSS unit celebrated Independence Day in our College campus. Dr. Vinay Kumar Yadav, HOD, Department of Hindi and Dr. Esther Malini, Principal in-charge of Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian PU College, hoisted the National Flag and addressed the gathering. This was followed by a Cultural programme performed by NSS volunteers, NCC Cadets and Youth Red Cross Society. A video on ‘Better India’ was shown by an NSS volunteer which was a thoughtful reflection of India.
Yoga Programme:
On 27th August 2015, Yoga Programme was conducted by HIVE. Mr. Sai Ramana, Founder of HIVE – Trainer in natural solutions and holistic living techniques addressed the NSS volunteers. The volunteers were enlightened about the Natural Farming Process through a story telling activity. The necessity of yoga and meditation in our regular life was explained to the volunteers. Surya Namaskar yoga poses were demonstrated by the instructors and volunteers also engaged themselves in meditation technique ‘Anapanasati”. The programme concluded with an outdoor activity and an interactive game to build confidence and team building among the volunteers.
Youth week Celebration:
On 12th January 2016, four NSS volunteers attended National Youth week Celebration at Central College. The volunteers uplifted the tradition of various districts in Karnataka, in their traditional outfits.
NSS Special Camp:
The NSS unit organized a Special Camp on the theme, “Youth for Science and Scientific Attitude” from 19th to 25th January 2016 at CSI Bethany Church, Channapatna. The Special Camp was inaugurated on 20th January 2016 by the Chief Guest Hon’ble Felix Alphonso Anthony,Addl. Civil Judge& J.M.F.Cand Prof. Esther Prasanakumar, Principal – Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College.
Everyday, Guest Lectures were arranged for the volunteers on various topics such as Legal Awareness – POSCO Act, Role of Youth in NSS, Health and Hygiene, Effects of tattoo and importance of Food Nutrition.
The NSS volunteers visited Elakeri village, Channapatna Taluk. The volunteers conducted an awareness programme on topics related to Gender Equality, Women Empowerment, Importance of Education, Health and Hygiene at Moraji Desai Residential School. NSS volunteers also conducted craft classes for the primary students. The volunteers were taken to Channapatna Toy Workshop to have an exposure on toy making techniques.
The volunteers visited Hawarthpura Colony and conducted Social Awareness Skit and various other cultural programmes under the guidance of Rev. Praveen, Presbyter of CSI Bethany Church.
A visit to ‘Janapada loka’ enriched the volunteers about the heritage of Channapatna.
Shramadhana:
As a part of Shramadhana Programme on 3rd March 2016 ,NSS volunteers cleaned the college campus to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
Outreach Programme:
NSS Volunteers visited Angels Orphanage, Shivajinagar on 8th March 2016. NSS volunteers organized a cultural programme for the kids and also taught them craft work. A contribution in kind was given by the NSS Volunteers.

Mrs. VasudhaPansare, HOD, Department of English and Dr. Vinay Kumar Yadav, HOD, Department of Hndi, hoisted the National Flag and addressed the gathering. Panel Discussion:
NSS Volunteers participated in the Panel Discussion on Genderlogue e-Digitalisation in Social Change on 22nd August 2016 organised by Mount Carmel College in association with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, India.
Shramadhana:
As a part of Shramadhanaprogramme on 29th August and 20thMarch 2016, NSS Volunteers cleaned the college campus to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
Digital Payment Campaign:
The NSS Volunteers were taken to S.P. Road, Bangalore to spread awareness and to educate the small vendors on different modes of Digital Payments.
NSS Special Camp:
The NSS unit organized a Special Camp from 31st January to 6th February 2017 at CSI Community Centre, Muthsandra, Tumkur. The Special Camp was inaugurated on 1st February 2017 by the Chief Guest Mr. A.S. Sudharshan. Superintendent, CSI Vocational Centre, Tumkur and Prof. Esther Prasanakumar, Principal – Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College.
Guest Lectures were conducted for the volunteers on topics such as Role of Technology in Rural Banking by Mr. S. Jayasimha, Advocate & Corporate Consultant , Tumkur and Role of Youth in Development of Nation by Mr. Raghavendra, Assistant Professor, Acharya Bangalore B School.
The Volunteers visited Government School, Muthsandra, Tumkur and conducted craft and dance classes for the primary students on 1st and 2nd February 2017.
The unit also conducted an outreach activity on Digital payments and created awareness among the residence of that locality.
Cultural activities were also conducted by the NSS Volunteers as part of the NSS Special Camp.

Orientation:
On 10th August 2017, NSS unit conducted orientation for all the NSS Volunteers. Dr. Gayathri M S, HOD, Department of Botany and NSS Programme Officer of Goodwill Christian College inaugurated the programme.
Independence Day:
The NSS unit celebrated Independence Day in our college campus on 15th August 2017. Our Principal Prof. Esther Prasanakumar hoisted the National Flag and addressed the gathering. This was followed by a cultural programme performed by NSS Volunteers and NCC Cadets.
Special Assembly:
A special assembly was conducted by NSS volunteers on 17th August 2017. NSS Volunteer enacted a play on Women Rights and Child Marriage.
Shramadhana:
As a part of Shramadhana programme, cleanliness campaign was held on 22nd September 2017. NSS Volunteers addressed in the college campus regarding maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene.
Awareness Programme:
NSS Volunteers painted the cafeteria wall in college campus as a part of Awareness Campaign Signage. The painting depicted the cleanliness habits to be maintained in the cafeteria.
Republic Day
On 26th January 2018 along with the NCC Cadets, the NSS students Union Members and the students of BCWCC celebrated Republic Day.
NSS Special Camp:
The NSS unit organized a Special Camp from 14th February to 20th February 2018 at St. Paul’s Church , Robertsonpet, KGF. The Special Camp was inaugurated on 14th February 2018 by the Chief Guest Rev. Robin Marshall, Presbyter of St. Paul’s Church, KGF, Guest of Honor Rev. Usha Rani, Presbyter of St. Mathews Church and St. John’s Church, KGF.
Guest Lectures were conducted for the volunteers on topics such as “Role of Youth in Community” by Mr. Ashish Babu and Mr. Joshua Marvin, Helping Hands Bangalore. The NSS Volunteers contributed towards the Helping Hands outreach programme.
An interactive session on the topic “Personal Health and Hygiene – Physical Fitness” was conducted by Dr. Savitha, Private Doctors Association.
The Volunteers visited Government School, Pottapanahalli, KGF and addressed the students on personal hygiene and moral values. NSS Volunteers also donated books to the students.
The unit also conducted an awareness campaign on Segregation of Dry and Wet Waste among the residence of Pottapanahalli, KGF.
Regular assemblies and Cultural activities were also conducted by the NSS Volunteers as part of the NSS Special Camp.
Outreach Programme:
The NSS Volunteers visited Sinclairs High School, Child Care Centre, Hennur Bande, Bangalore as part of the outreach programme on 13th April 2018. The volunteers conducted cultural programme for the kids, taught craft work and contribution in kind was given.
