About the Department:
Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College functions under the aegis of the Karnataka Central Diocese, a pioneer in the field of education. The Post Graduate Department of English at Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College rests on three decades of academic investment in nurturing students within the BA program, with Optional English as one of its core subjects. This program has typically provided students with an interdisciplinary edge, which is furthered in the MA ENGLISH program.
The program is in line with the Bangalore Central University and follows UGC guidelines. We are particularly interested in creating a learning space for our students that will enable them to emerge as leaders, creative thinkers, critical innovators and persons who influence the world. We have on board faculty who are keenly academic in orientation, passionate about teaching and research and deeply interested in students. We are therefore able to generate a value based teaching program that works towards the future of each student. The job market now offers diverse opportunities in media, journalism, communication, content writing, school teaching, higher education and academic research, creative enterprise, etc. And students of English are often the chosen few who enter this market space with greater confidence and an edge over others.
